When you choose to roam around America you are at the mercy of the internet. We can plan as much as we want, research, google, and all that, but you never know what you are going to get until you get there. Arkansas was an example of that, and so is the place we are staying currently in Colorado. We researched where we were going, we needed to fill out all of this information to make sure we could afford to stay here, there is a packet of park rules, and pretty good reviews online. The place where we are is OK, but we aren't doing this to settle for OK, nor are we doing this to just hang out where we are staying. But, we want to be comfortable where we are and enjoy it. So, we are moving to a different RV resort about 10 minutes away in a couple weeks. Brandon and I went and scoped it out and it is more inline with what we are looking for. This whole experience is literally a "live and learn" adventure. We aren't bougie, or high maintenance at all, we would just like certain things. Such as grass for Bruce, and to feel ok with having Alanna walk Bruce around the park. Don't get me wrong, we are safe where we are, it's just that people leave their dogs tied up outside and that is something we don't want Alanna to have to deal with. We are sadly trading the mountain view that we have here, but gaining a better piece of mind. We plan on being out in the mountains more than just looking at them anyway.
Alanna started her first day of 7th grade. Homeschooling does have its learning curve for all three of us, that is for sure. Alanna flew threw her first week of work for Earth Science in an hour or so, so we had to go back through and analyze what she should be doing each day to make sure she is using her time wisely. Alanna's classes this semester are: Earth Science, ELA, Math, Social Studies, Personal Finance, and Coding. I think the flexibility the homeschooling allows is really going to be great for her.
Brandon found a nice short hike for us to go on when I was done working and Alanna was done with school. We packed up some water, a snack, and Bruce and drove the 20 minutes away to the hike. Brandon made sure to research that the trail allowed dogs, but when we got here dogs were not allowed due to the heat. It was a bit of a bummer, but totally understandable. We don't want Bruce getting heat stroke either. So, we turned around and went back home. These are things that we need to start thinking about differently. Elevation, weather, air quality, etc. All things we are learning as we go. Bruce did enjoy the car ride though!
What we learned:
- The Internet is great, but not always accurate (duh)
- Hiking in the heat is not a good idea with a doggo (also duh?)
- Homeschooling is a lot of learning for all three of us
- Alfred and Bruce like to spoon
